I am retired and would be interested in doing consulting work. I have over
35 years in the manufacturing field and have worked with other start up
companies. What is the best way to get with a consulting firm. Is there a
demand for consultants? Do you just find one and ask if they need someone
like me or what?
I got started while working a regular shift and moonlighting after hours for
the local Small Business Development Center (not SBA) helping people with
ideas get into business from product development through to mass production,
tooling, systems and the like. At 70 I'm still doing consulting on a part
time basis and find it fulfills my needs to be of service to humanity and
the pay is pretty good. Pay ranges from $35 a billable hour to $100
depending on the college and budget each one has. Polish your resume and ask
for a meeting with your local SBD-ITCs and CACTS (Centers for Applied
Competitive Technologies) and the state branches of American Manufacturer's
Association in league with Employee Training Programs where money is spent
to re-educate the American worker in how to make things from wood, steel,
aluminum Ti and composites.
