| Will USA still be the number 1, or European Union will take it’s place? What will happen with the economy of USA in this case? Will remain at this level … or it will go down ? |

I think US will be ontop for a good long while though we need to concentrate on exporting more and importing less though american consumers are too addicted to cheap products
Example: When I lived in NZ a pair of Levis red tabs were $150NZ now I live here I just purchased a pair for $30US. Now they may not be marketed the same i.e in NZ they are a "luxury" brand and in the US they are a "staple" but the prie difference makes you think.
Now to offer them so cheap they much be making money at someones expense |

I think US might have a big problem in the future with the EU coming from behind... :) It might be outrun by the EU... but who knows...
And yes, there are products which are highly overpriced outside the US and cheaper in the US |

While in time the EU may outstrip the US, that's still quite a ways off... remember, California alone is the 7th largest economy in the world!
Seriously though, unless America starts taking a more comprehensive and long-term view and approach to its international positioning things will, inevitably, start to change.
Out of curiosity, where are most Levis even made these days? Closer to NZ than to the US I’d presume… :? |

Though if the EU does take over from the US as being the biggest economic power then it really shuldn't be a suprise considering how big the EU is in comparision the the US. Its not like the case of one country beating another but a whole bunch of countries
I believe Levis are made in guatamala now though as soon as wages go up there they'll move further south
For awhile alot of clothes product was doen in the maurantius islands bc it was a US territory ( or something ) there was a loophole where the manufacturers could legally label their garments as made in the USA.
Also residents of the EU have developed the taste for consumerism (yet) wait for that to happen
Speaking of CA. I live in LA and for the life of me can't figure out what they mean when they talk about an economic downturn. Certainly not where I live |

honestly, I do not see EU taking the US. seriously, US will only get stronger. Here is why I believe this to be the case:
I can fly to London and say that I have only 10,000 dollars and would like to consider saving up to try and open a business. I could ask if I could live and work there while doing this. Do you think they would allow it? Absolutly not!
Yet if you were a non US resident in the UK and you went to the US embassy with say, 10000 quid and a good business plan, you would more than likely be welcomed with open arms.
How do I know this? I am getting married to a European November 11th. She came on a work visa, after submitting a biz plan was excepted 4 days later.
There are too many flocking here with money for me to see a future collapse in economic power for the US.
I could be wrong, but I just dont see it happening. |

The way I see it the problem is we are spending too much money on imports. think about even when your purchasing something as american as levis your sending a portion of the purchase price overseas.
My husband is hispanic and at his work he has alot of immigrant workers working under him. He always comments to me about how the majority are working not for themselves but for others back in mexico, honduras etc. They send a good portion of their wages back home.
We really need to work on getting more money into the economy and not let it bleed out |
