My friend built a consultant website for himself -- he is a part-time
consultant:
http://www.mingliangliu.com
Personally, I don't think the website is appealing enough...Any advice
for improvements! |

I agree it is pretty crude. Let me tell you what I did.
First, I identified the top 100 or so players in my field. I visited each
of their websites and took screen shots.
I then sorted the sites in the order I found most appealing. I really
should have enlisted some potential customers to do that, but its hard to
get that kind of involvement starting out.
I then looked at the top sites to see what made them different from the ugly
sites. This gave me essentially a style guide for my site. I did enlist a
graphic artist to help with a logo and such, but that did take quite a bit
of hand-holding since these guys live in another world.
I'm fairly happy with the result, although I think it needs another cycle or
two. But ... I've had enough business that I haven't had the time to
maintain, let alone upgrade, the site.

Thanks. Would you tell me what field you are in? |
