|
|
I have a small home business I run in my spare time and it is currently
a sole proprietorship (I'm in Washington State), but I would like to
change it to an LLC. I know with a sole proprietorship you can have a
"doing business as" (dba) name. Is the same true for an LLC? In other
words, can I call the company ABC Importing, but do business as XYX
Retail, and if so would XYZ Retail be considered an LLC as well?
Thanks,
Ed B. |

Ed,
Save time, save money, save confusion. Go to the source - your Washington
Secretary of State (or equivalent). Search Washington State and
corporations and dba and llc, and then get in touch with the appropriate
state agency. Most have posted telephone numbers and email addresses.
These folks can tell you quickly what you are asking, as well as what you
haven't asked: county & city business registration (a Washington biggie),
sales tax, corporate tax and so on.
Good luck in your business.
