I think there is still room in this market, but probably it is best to get exposure through specialization. Such areas could include:
phpbb templates
oscommerce templates
phpnuke templates
In addition, there are many Content Management Systems that are becoming popular, and there may be some new opportunities, so watch for this. A good resource would be http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.php
See what is new and popular and then make some site templates designed around one of theses CMS systems. |

You know NOBODY does good ebay templates ( at least not without having to hire a freelancer) and with ebay expanding the ebay stores so you cna have multiple frontpages etc there is room to move in this market. There are some ppl doing it but its very lame. Trust me I've spent the week looking
This is the quality I would be looking for

I'm thinking of using elance to find a web designer has anyone used this service? |

| Good heads up tasche... seems like that really is a niche that's fairly wide open at the moment. |

| Esp with ebay making the stores feature more like your mini site within a site. Some users are actually intergrating their checkout system with their listings. Being a comp sci grad I wish I had the time to learn all the new stuff thats cropped up the last few years but I haven't really programmed seriously since '99 |

| Unfortunately I'm utterly clueless in such matters... and really don't have the time to learn either... :( |

| And yes...I think you would get good results at Elance. I have a couple of subcontractors that have made money on Elance, though I have never used the service myself. And I think you have a great idea. It's certainly worth a try. |
